The study attempted to examine the students’ academic performance in ecology through a guided inquiry based outdoor activity among education students of West Visayas State University Extension Campus at Himamaylan City. The study focused on the 22 third year students enrolled in Bachelor in Elementary Education and taking up Ecology subject. Specifically, it aimed to: 1. Find out what are the pre-test and post-test results of the students exposed to guided inquiry based outdoor activity; 2. Find out significant difference between the pre-test and post-test mean scores of students when exposed to guided inquiry-based outdoor activity.
The experimental method of investigation in a pretest-posttest design was utilized in the study. The students’ achievement was determined by a twenty- item Multiple Choice Test with the topics on terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems. Result showed that there was a significant difference on the students’ achievements before and after the Guided Inquiry Based Outdoor Activity Approach was introduced, with Z value = -4.175, 0.00< 0.05. Thus, the intervention, Guided Inquiry Based Outdoor Activity Approach significantly improved students’ academic performance.
