Logic trainers are laboratory equipment used by schools offering academic programs in Computer Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering and Electrical Engineering. It is used primarily to verify applications in Logic Circuit and Switching Theory. It may also be used for verifying the operation and response of digital circuit design in laboratory experiments using logic gates in configurations of simple distinct units up to large scale integrated circuits. It allows the building, modifying and troubleshooting of all sorts of digital circuits.
The logic trainer is proving to be more cost effective than the traditional system which is now being phased out in school laboratories. For instance, the cost of the logic trainer has been found to be very much lower than the cost of equivalent traditional equipment because of the materials used. Moreover, they have greater capabilities aside from the fact that they are easier to operate and maintain.
Most commercially available digital trainer boards are usually imported from the USA. At present, there is no logic trainer board available in the local market that is affordable and locally fabricated. Schools are reluctant to make the necessary initial capital investment for the logic trainers because these are quite costly. To overcome this reluctance, it is necessary to develop and design a real time monitoring display for logic trainers in such a way that are both simple and affordable to fulfill the basic curricular requirements of Philippine schools.
