European Union is involved in resolving the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. There is a longstanding, broad involvement by the EU institutions and national governments. The conflict is a frequent issue on the agenda of the European council, which brings together the heads of states and governments of all member states. It is always an item on the agenda of foreign ministers.
Many analysts argue that the European Union and the United States of America share common vital interest in the Middle East: combating terrorism; halting proliferation of weapons of mass destruction (WMD); promoting Middle East peace and stability; Ensuring reliable flow of oil. These experts asserts that the goals of U.S and European Union policies towards these various challenges are not that far apart, but the European Union see that resolving the Palestinian-Israeli conflict is the key source for stability, besides that the European Union ambition to play a bigger role on the world stage.
