Background
Significant proportion of people with spinal cord injury experience chronic pain.
Chronic pain is recognized as a bio-psycho –physiological phenomenon.
Objectives
To estimate the prevalence, severity and duration of neuropathic pain after spinal cord injury
Methodology
Cross sectional study design
Inclusion criteria
All patients admitted spinal injury ward 14, 12, 5, 8 and 6 at the time of study were selected.
Exclusive criteria
Patient who were not given consent
Data collection method
DN 4 international chronic pain assessment tool was used to identify patient with chronic pain. The principle investigator administered the questionnaire to all study participants .
Data entry
Data was entered into EpiInfo software
Data analysis was carried out in SPSS software
Results
Fifty (50) patients were included in this study . 12% of this were female while 88% were male.
Prevalenc of neuropathic pain was 76% among the study population
Acute pain suffers were 54% and chronic pain suffers were 22%
Conclusion
Pain is a common problem that has a major impact with patients with SCI.
